Know Your Commander



            Major General Perfecto M Rimando Jr AFP is the 29th Commander of the 5th Infantry (Star) Division, Philippine Army. His designation as the commander of 5th ID is in recognition of his exemplary leadership in various fields and garrison units. He was born on 2 March 1963 in Naguilian, La Union.

Major General Rimando was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Regular Force on 22 March 1986 after graduating from the Philippine Military Academy. He took up numerous military courses such as Scout Ranger Course, Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advance Course, and Command and General Staff Course.

In addition to his Military schoolings, he also completed the International Defense Management Course, Crisis Management Course, and Master of Social Science (Defense Studies) from the National University of Malaysia.

In the early years of his career, Major General Rimando served as the Commanding Officer of Alpha Company, 34th Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division. He also served as a staff officer in various units in the fields of administration, intelligence, operations and training. He has been assigned in different parts of the country to include his assignment in the AOR of 5th ID specifically in the Cordillera.

He commanded the 60th Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division from October 2005 to January 2008. In September 2010, he became the Chief of Staff of the Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) until July 2013. After his stint in ISAFP, he was designated as the Chief of the Philippine Army Human Rights Office for more than two years.

In September 2015, he assumed the position of Commander, 8O1st Brigade, 8th Infantry Division in Samar area. Prior to his present position, he was the Deputy Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command.

Major General Rimando is a well-decorated combat and staff officer. He is a recipient of various awards and commendations. During his junior years, he was accorded with Cavalier Award by the PMA Alumni Association Incorporated for his most outstanding performance in Army operations. His military awards include Distinguished Conduct Star, Distinguished Service Star, Bronze Cross Medal, Silver Wing Medal, Military Merit Medals, Military Civic Action Medals and Military Commendation Medals.

Major General Rimando is married to Ms Irene Fernando Rimando of Ilagan, Isabela. They are blessed with a daughter named Iris Claire Angela F Rimando.
