Kalinga Based Rebel Surrenders to Defender Troopers

Camp Melchor F Dela Cruz, Gamu, Isabela-  – At around 9:00 AM of Jan 8, 2018, a communist terrorist member voluntarily surrendered to LTC Martin S Daiz Jr, Commanding Officer of the 50th Infantry (Defender) Battalion at their Headquarters in Barangay Camalog, Pinukpuk, Kalinga.

The surrendered was identified as a certain Noel Omang, also known as “INCHA”, 22 years old, single and a resident of Brgy Bagumbayan, Tabuk City, Kalinga. He is an active member of squad tres of KLG Baggas of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) operating within the province of Kalinga.

LTC Daiz Jr assured their assistance to Mr. Omang in processing the benefits intended for the latter under the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) of the government in collaboration with the concerned LCE’s, LGU’s and PNP. The said surrenderor is still at Headquarters 50IB for documentation purposes.

According to LTC Daiz, Mr. Omang surrendered to his unit upon learning the CLIP program from his relatives through the information campaign of the unit. Mr. Omang who was with the terrorist organization for more than 4 years, said that a number of his companions are actually opting to surrender as they had lost confidence and believe in the CT organization; only, they are being coerced and threatened by their leader.

BGen Perfecto M Rimando Jr, AFP, the Commander of 5ID, was overwhelmed with the surrender of Omang. “The influx of surrenderees from the communist terrorist rebel of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera is a clear manifestation that our message of peace is already penetrating the core of their twisted belief and doctrine,” said BGen Rimando.

“Since the locals are now providing information about these Terrorist Threat groups, I urge the remaining rebels to lay down their arms and abandon their unworthy arms struggle against the government. Instead, they should actively participate in the development programs in our communities. Let us settle our differences in a peaceful way, after all,  we are all Filipinos,” added BGen Rimando.
