CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela – The 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army headed by BGen Perfecto M Rimando Jr AFP warmly welcomed the arrival of the Officers and men of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-8, Philippine Marine Corps (MBLT-8, PMC) at Port Irene, Sta Ana, Cagayan on February 16, 2018.

The MBLT-8 headed by Lt Col Rommel B Bogñalbal PN (M) was placed under the operational control of  5ID to support the Command’s campaign against CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) in Cagayan Province.

This comes after Lt Gen Emmanuel B Salamat AFP, Commander, Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) ordered the hastening of the clearing of barangays from the influence of the CNTs. The MBLT8 will support the 5ID’s in its peace, security, and development programs in the Province of Cagayan.

Prior to the deployment of MBLT-8 in Cagayan, the unit was previously assigned in the Provinces of Sultan Kudarat, Tawi-Tawi and Sulu all in Mindanao.

BGen Rimando Jr was very grateful for the arrival of MBLT-8. “As the commander of the largest Army unit in the northernmost part of the country, it is an honor to receive the MBLT-8, a unit with an outstanding record, both in admin and combat, and composed of professional and battle-hardened Officers and Enlisted personnel.” BGen Rimando Jr said.

“With the help of the MBLT-8, the peace and security in the Province of Cagayan are expected to improve further. With this, I urge the Cagayanos to lend their support to the MBLT-8, because no military unit will succeed without the help of the people, the Local Government Units, and the Civil Society as a whole.” BGen Rimando added.
