Two wounded Star Troopers, get medals


    CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela – Two soldiers of the 5th Infantry (Star) Division were awarded with the Wounded Personnel Medal in a simple ceremony conducted at CMFDC Station Hospital around 9 AM on January 26, 2018.

    No less than the Commander of the 5ID, who is at the same time Commander of Joint Task Force “Tala,” BGen Perfecto M Rimando Jr AFP pinned the medals. He also handed grocery items and Php 5,000 pesos to each awardee as financial assistance from the Star Fund (Star Trooper Active Relief Fund).

    SSg Virgilio M Jacinto (Inf) PA of Alicia, Isabela and PFC Keaven W Macaiba (Inf) PA of Tinglayan, Kalinga were wounded during an encounter at Barangay Baay, Pinukpuk, Kalinga on January 23, 2018. They displayed courage and gallantry during the encounter, thus, the recognition.

    BGen Rimando during the awarding praised the wounded personnel to include their comrades from the 50th Infantry Battalion saying, “you are the modern hero worthy of emulation by your peers. I urge you to take this part of your career as a challenge to strive more in performing your mandate in serving our country and people,” he also reminded the two and other personnel of 5ID present during the occasion by saying, “we should always ask for God’s divine guidance in the performance of our constitutional mandate.”
