54IB overrun NPA Terrorist camp in Ifugao

                 CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela – The 54th Infantry (Magilas) Battalion overran a Communist-New Peoples’ Army-Terrorist camp at Sitio Lab-ong, Brgy Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao around 7:00 o’clock in the morning on November 21, 2018.

                The operations resulted in the recovery of one K3-Squad Automatic Weapon, three M16 Rifle, M203 Grenade Launcher, five Improvised Explosive Devices, cellular phones, 27 Blasting Caps, two detonators, three NPA flag, generator set, subversive documents and food stuffs. No casualties on the government side, while still undetermined on the enemy side.

                 Moreover, four members of the CNT surrendered to the same unit on the same date. The two, identified with their aliases as Ka Iyong, Squad Leader, Squad Uno, Nona Del Rosario Command and, Ka Cindy, member of the same group of rebels. While two more CNTs surrendered identified as Ka Rambo and Ka Hadji who willingly submitted themselves to the authority after the combat encounters at Brgy Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao with them are the following: two (2) hand grenades, one (1) rifle grenade, two long and three short magazines with sixty-six ammunitions and two (2) rifles; one (1) M16 Rifle and one (1) Garand Rifle.

                 According to Lieutenant Colonel Narciso B Nabulneg Jr, Battalion Commander, 54IB, the information about the enemy encampment were from local populace in the area by saying, “The operation was launched thru the information given by the civilian in the area, wherein the NPA were busy extorting goods and foodstuffs from the masses in preparation for their grand activity next month. This scheme irate the masses who hardly meet their everyday needs.”

                On the other hand, Brigadier General Leopoldo A Imbang Jr, Brigade Commander, 503IBde commended the troops of the 54IB for their professionalism in carrying out their mission. “I commend the Officers and men of 54IB behind the success of the operations leading to the seizure of the CNT camp, surrender of four CNT members and the recovery of war materiel. We hope that peace will soon be achieved in that area with the neutralization of the CNTs.” BGen Imbang said.

    Meanwhile, Major General Perfecto M Rimando Jr, Commander, 5th Infantry Division credited the success of the operations to the overwhelming support given by the masses to the soldiers. “In due time, we will reward those people behind the seizure of the CNT camp and the recovery of war materiel. We owe everything to the people who provided the information to our operating troops.” MGen Rimando Jr said.

                “As we continue to pursue the enemies of the state, we are also offering the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) to the remaining CNTs for them to abandon the armed struggle and live a normal life once again. We will continue our mandate to protect the rights of the people against the CNTs as we also give second chances to those who wish to yield to the fold of the law.” MGen Rimando Jr added.  

                The recovered war materiel are still in the possession of 54IB as of this writing for safekeeping. More troops were already inserted to track the rebels who believed to have incurred casualties.
