Three CAA dead, 2 other missing in Mountain Province landslide

    CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela – Three members of the CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) under Alpha Company, 77th Infantry Battalion were confirmed dead, while two of their companion were still missing during the landslide occurred at Brgy Banawel, Natonin, Mountain Province on October 30, 2018.

    The three dead CAA’s were identified as CAA Leobel B Orchilion, CAA Linang N Pallichang and CAA Jonathan T Ngilin, to include the two whose names still withheld were all assigned in Ubao Patrol Base, Brgy Ubao, Aguinaldo, Ifugao.

    According to Lieutenant Colonel Rembert R Baylosis, Commanding Officer, 77IB, he confirmed the fate of his personnel by saying, “the five CAFGU were on leave when the incident happened.”

    “Our five CAA’s went to work at the DPWH project in the area as laborers and skilled workers to compensate their allowances as CAA. Just for the sake of those who do not know, our CAFGU personnel only work for 15 days every month and the remaining days are free for the CAA to earn additional income for their families.” LTC Baylosis said.

    Meanwhile, Major General Perfecto M Rimando Jr, Commander, 5ID consoled the families of the three dead CAA and prayed for the fast recovery of all the missing.

    “The whole Star Troopers grieve with the families of our CAA members. We will see to it that their families will receive all the necessary assistance that is due to them,” MGen Rimando Jr said.

    “We already mobilized our forces to help in the on-going retrieval operations, and we are still praying that we will retrieve the other victims to include the other two CAAs the soonest possible time.” MGen Rimando Jr added.

    It can be recalled that typhoon depression Rosita struck the area of 5ID to include Mountain Province that triggered the said landslide. As of this time, five dead bodies were already recovered to include the three CAAs and 30 more are still missing.
