53rd Division Reconnaissance Company
The 53rd division reconnaissance (Alamid) company was activated eff 01 Apr 2003, pur to go nr 228 H5id dtd 16 Apr 2003. Composed of three (3) officers and seventy (70) enlisted personnel under 1Lt Mark Anthony A Ayap o-13314 (INF) pa, a native of Pavha, Sta Lucia, Tarlac. A graduate of scout ranger course became the first co of this unit from 16 Dec 2003 to 15 sept 2004.
The unit was placed OPCON to 502nd BDE from 16 July to 16 Nov 03, and was utilized in providing combat, strike and security operations to areas of 45ib and 54ib, comprising the provinces of isabela, nueva viscaya, benguet, ifugao, quirino and mountain province.
2lt romy p andres o-133893 (INF) pa was designated as acting co from 16 sep 2004 to 15 Jan 2005 where it was placed OPCON to 503rd BDE from 09 Dec 2003 to 16 june 2006. During the implementation of “task force kauri” the alamid troopers engage and encountered six (6) ct’s of icrc w/c resulted to the killing of one (1) communist terrorist leader identified as joseph velasco aka “ic”/“ka tagbat” co, sdg, syp2, klg sinag of icrc on 10 June 2005.
53DRC was later placed OPCON to areas of 501BDE in connection with the task force “amiya” from 17 June 2006 to 14 Oct 2006, purposely to suppress insurgents activities within the municipalities of Baggao, Carupian Complex, Alcala and Amulung all of Cagayan province.
Due to its relentless effort and dedication, the unit was given opportunity and was placed OPCON to 104th BDE, 1id, pa in connection with the joint task force “comet” wherein the unit played essential role in suppressing threats against the jemaa Islamiah, Abu Sayyaf group and MILF, in mainland Mindanao particularly in the province of Sulu fm 16 oct 2006 to 18 may 2007 composed of 5 officers and 142 ep under 1Lt Ritche C Mabalod o-13394 (INF) pa who assumed as the unit’s 2nd commanding officer from 16 Jan 2005 to 23 oct 2006 (Luzon) and from 23 Oct 2006 to 01 may 2007 in Mindanao. During the coy stint in Mindanao, this unit participated in ten (10) brigade size opn’s eight (8) coy size opn’s twenty nine (29) platoon size opn’s and numerous small size opn’s. This unit also participated in the different activities such as the conduct of sec opn’s, MEDCAP of the different mil units and American counterparts, conduct overt sec opn’s to foreign nationals and dignitaries visiting the province of Sulu for humanitarian msn’s.
On 18 may 07 the unit was sent back and placed OPCON to 503rd (INF) BDE, 5id, pa in connection with the May 2007 national election and the incidents that happen in the province of Abra. The unit that time was under 1Lt Ronald Borras o-13985 (INF) pa as the unit 3rd co from 02 May 2007 to 28 July 08.
1lt Borras was born on 05 April 1980 in Lahug, Cebu City and a graduate of PMA class 2004 bs in management, a graduate of Infantry officer basic course and military intelligence officer basic course. From 24 June to 29 November 2007, the unit was placed OPCON to 502nd BDE purposely to replace 54ib for their bn retraining. The unit undergone its second refresher training, conducted by 5dtu from 30 November – 12 December 2007
On 08 Dec 07, the unit was again placed OPCON to 503rd BDE. Temporarily stationed at Bulag, Bantay, Ilocos Sur with a composition of 4 officers and 95 ep.
On 05 march 2008 to 27 august 2008 the unit was then stationed at Brgy Baquero, Baay-Licuan, Abra to replace the 41ib for their battalion retraining at h5dtu, 5id, pa.
On 28 aug 08, the unit was OPCON to 502nd BDE purposely to replace the 54ib personnel contingent for Mindanao.
On 29 july 08, 2lt alvin s gonzales o-15162 (INF) pa was designated as acting co from 1 aug 08 to 14 oct 08.
1Lt Ariel B Quirog o-135690 (INF) pa was the 4th company commander from 10 october to 08 December 2008.
1Lt Ramon B Padre Jr o-14013 (INF) pa was the 5th Alamid company commander from 08 Dec 08 to 22 Jan 2010. 1lt padre jr was born on 15 July 1981 at Tabaco City, Albay. A graduate of scout ranger course, MIOBC and INF advance crse. On 27 Nov 2009 the coy undergone its first company sustainment training at h50ib, Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur under the supervision of the mobile training team (mtt), 5dtu.
On 27 Dec 2009, the unit move from Sulvec, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur to H503BDE, Brgy. Tagodtod, Lagangilang, Abra.
On 23 January 2010, 1Lt Hiram Añedez Logroño o-137644 (INF) pa assumed his position as 6th Alamid company commander. Born on 19 Sept 1982 at Ilaud, Inabanga, Bohol. On 5 august 2010, the unit placed OPCON with 502BDE purposely to conduct combat opn within the BDE area of opn. On 07 april 2009, this unit participated in the conduct of search and rescue operations, retrieval operation, and security of investigating team during the crash of 250th presidential airlift wing bell at Vic Mt Mangingihe of Mt Pulag which resulted in the recovery of eight (8) bodies of the members of the presidential staffs aboard the said aircraft.
On 07 Oct 2010, the Alamid troopers participated in the conduct of security and disaster rescue and relief operations together with the American counterparts in the municipalities of Maconacon, Palanan, Bintacan and Ilagan all of Isabela province which were devastated by the onslaught of “typhoon Juan and torrential rains that caused floods in the low lying areas of said municipalities.
On 11 February 2011, the unit move at h5dtu for the purpose of re-training with a strength of 85 personnel; 3 officers and 82 enlisted personnel. On 07 march 2011,troops was pulled-out from 5dtu and placed OPCON to 17ib,5id,pa for combat opn in lasam, Baggao all of Cagayan Valley.
On 21 May 2011, this unit was placed OPCON to 501st BDE pur to command guidance, 5id campaign plan “Pagkakaisa”
On 221830 May 2011, the coy move at Sitio Kapanikian, Brgy Camalog, Pinukpok, Kalinga as the units new ao to fill the gap that was vacated by 21ib who will undergo Bn retraining.
On 01 Feb 2012, 1Lt Rey Exequiel Columna Escalera o-140082 (INF) pa assume his position as the 7th commanding officer, the unit was placed OPCON to 503BDE stationed at so Tubo, Brgy Sapid, Mankayan, Benguet with a total strength of ninety three; 2 officers and 91 ep.
On 15 Nov 2012, 1lt Escalera (INF) pa was relieved and reassigned HHSBN and subsequently, 2lt alvin e dela cruz (INF) pa was designated as officer-in-charge from 16 Nov 2012 to 03 Dec 2012.
On 04 Dec 2012, 1lt Malcolm Cabuhat Aquino 0-15780 (INF) pa was designated as the 8th commanding officer of this unit. Placed OPCON to 502BDE pur to operational directive d3-2411-05-2012 dated 24 Nov 2012. And was stationed at Sitio Balabal, Brgy Uno, Jones, and Isabela. 1lt Aquino is a native of San Agustin, San Miguel, Bulacan. He is member of PMA class of 2009. This unit was placed OPCON to 503BDE with a total strength of one hundred twenty four (124), 4 officers and 120 enlisted personnel.
On 16 Jan 2014, this unit was placed OPCON to h5id, pa under operational directive nr 09-01-2014-01 as div reserved, at present the unit was stationed at HDTS, 5id, PA with a total strength of one hundred twenty eight personnel; 4 officers and 124 EP.
The 53rd division reconnaissance company is to provide security and to perform reconnaissance for the division or the unit to which it is assigned or attached and to engage in offensive, delaying and economy of force as required.
The 53rd division reconnaissance company supports the 5id, PA in the conduct of Oplan “Bayanihan” and to intensify internal security operations to destroy the military components and to neutralize the political structures of party committees inside 5id AOR in order to create an environment conducive to socio – economic growth and development within the division area of responsibility.
Activation: – 53DRC Division Reconnaissance Company, 5ID, PA is activated effective 01 April 2003. Personnel will be the prescribed ceiling of three (3) officers and eighty (80) enlisted personnel in annual operating program (aop) calendar year 2003.
Areas of responsibility – to be placed operational control (OPCON) to any Infantry brigades of 5id.
1. Conduct detailed ground reconnaissance and surveillance within the front, flanks and rear of the unit which it was assigned or attached;
2. Conduct security and screening operations;
3. Engage in offensive, defensive and delaying operations as required;
4. Conduct independent operations when properly reinforced.
5. Assist in the counter mobility preparation of the main battle area (MBA) in support of the division commander’s scheme of maneuver;
6. Conduct long range patrol;
7. Operation in all types of local weather and terrain.
