Unit Seal and Description
As a unit, 5th DTU has its own seal which represents the unit and its mission. The illustrations drawn on its seal symbolizes the following:
The Torch – symbolizes the light of knowledge, which frees every soldier from ignorance. It is the aspiration of this unit to provide knowledge, develop the skills and enhance the proficiency of our soldiers not only to advance their academic talent but also to make them understand the real meaning of service to god, country and people.
The Book – stands for education and training. A book from where knowledge emanates and a tool of our soldiers to acquire wisdom.
The star – represents the 5th Infantry Division which is the mother unit of the 5th Division Training Unit.
The laurel leaves – in ancient Greece it is being bestowed upon great men who gained excellence in a certain field of endeavor. It symbolizes the units aim to develop the soldiers excellence on his field of expertise.
In order to produce a fightingest star trooper trade to believe that the Division Training School must also evolve to be more competent, capable and credible organization. An organization that has to go beyond expectation.
5th Division Training Unit (DTU) started as a mobile training team. This mobile training team is one of the mobile training teams sent by higher headquarters to cater the training’s of the lower units in the field that could not be accommodated by the Philippine army training command (TRACOM). On March 1986, the 5th infantry brigade separates transferred its headquarters from Camp Servillano Aquino in Tarlac to Upi, Gamu, Isabela. When the 5th brigade separate was upgraded to a division, it housed and gave residency to the mobile training team which later became the division training center.
Pursuant to General Orders NR 487 Headquarters Philippine Army, the 5th division training unit was activated on November 1988. The personnel and equipment of the defunct division training center formed the nucleus of the unit.

5th Division Training School mission provides a wide variety of realistic and innovative techniques to conduct basic soldier skills training, specialization, in-service, and unit training for organic personnel and units of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.
At present the 5th Division Training School is organized into (5) departments namely: the Headquarters department which is responsible for the accomplishment of the School’s mission; the Service Support Department which administers command and control over service support personnel; Unit Training department which is responsible in the conduct of unit training; Basic Soldiery Skills Department which is responsible in the conduct of basic soldier skills training; and the Specialization Department which is responsible in the conduct of the specialization training.
OUR COURSES AND TRAINING
The Division Training School aims to become a highly capable, dynamic and unified organization of professional Trainor’s and dedicated soldiers that provides timely, accurate training which correspond to the training of Candidate Soldiers and transform them into a competent, confident and complemented by other discipline guided by the Army Core Values and embraced the Warrior Ethos ready to serve the Philippine Army physically, mentally and psychologically as an effective rifleman and a trusted member of the fire team and squad.
We impart relevant skills and information that can reduce threats, save lives and with our down to earth training curriculum, Army Soldier Combat Skills Enhancement Training (ASCSET), Urban Combat Training, First Sergeant Training, Agent Handling Training, Law Enforcement Operations, Disaster Relief and Rescue Operations (DRRO), Bayanihan Operation Squad Training (BOST), Tactical Interrogation Exploitation Training, Casualty Management Evacuation Training, Squad Leader’s Training.
The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle. It is the aspiration of this school to provide knowledge, develop the skills and enhance the proficiency of our soldiers to effectively accomplish the unit mission and be enlisted into Regular Force upon successfully fulfilling the minimum requirements in reference to the standard of the PHILIPPINE ARMY.
Incapacitating the students, the school also imparts famous dictum of Sun Tzu “If you know your enemy and know yourself and you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.” We highlight the importance of knowing the enemy by diligently imparting to them on how the enemy of the state starts their organizing work in the countryside. This school also gives emphasis on the adage of Mao Tse Tung’s sixteen character formula.
BATTALION RETRAINING FACILITIES – This facility enhance and developed star troopers operational readiness, unit cohesion, fighting spirit and combat performance of the troops prior to their deployment.
DTS LAGOON – This lagoon is usually used for basic swimming lessons and practice survival swimming techniques in negotiating bodies of water.
SLIDE FOR LIFE – The purpose of this facility is to develop the trainee’s confidence in their mental and physical abilities while cultivating personal courage.
FIRING RANGE – Our firing range is an outdoor type range that caters training with specialized facility designed for firearms practice and competition with specially-designed funnel-shaped traps to prevent bullets from ricocheting back at the shooters. It can host a level 3 hand gun, 2 gun and 3 gun competitions.
KNOWN DISTANCE RANGE (KDR) – It is an outdoor shooting range with a sheltered shooting stand and several other unsheltered stands. The targets are placed at the foot of the hill with sufficient area behind and beside the impact berms. It has a fan-shaped area that extends lengthwise to the ultimate ballistic distance of the round fired.
OBSTACLE COURSE – it is a series of challenging physical obstacle elements with the aim of testing the speed and endurance for individuals or team that navigates usually while being timed and give trainees confidence in physical abilities while cultivating toughness.
JUNGLE AREA – The prime use of our jungle area is designed to enhance the training unit’s for small unit leadership, tactical mindset, unit cohesion and to operate independently with prior coordination.
TRAINING POOL – This training facility is a rectangular shape with a dimension of 7 meters wide x 7 meters length x 12 feet deep. The purpose of this facility to conduct intended various swimming lessons like Bubbles, Flutter Kick, Arm Movement, Breathing, and Trading, floating, buddy and equipment recovery.
SWIMMING POOL – Our swimming pool is a customized Foot Print shape constructed with built in- ground intended for recreational and other leisure activities.
GRANDSTAND – Our Grandstand is a large permanent structure with a seating capacity of 100 people. This is where major activities such as parades, graduation ceremonies, and sportsfest are held. It is also regularly used as a venue during morning exercises.
DTS COOPERATIVE – Our retail store owned and managed by in-service personnel who supply the capital and share in the profits by patronage dividends. This facility provides a wide variety of affordable, immediate goods to organic personnel and students.
The Division Training School is one of the subordinate units of the 5th Infantry Division that provide support and conduct the training for the Division. Our mission through the years was laboriously achieved by the diligence and affectionate yield of the officers, men and women of the Division Training School, 5th Infantry Division Philippine Army.
